Homeless Ministry
Bread of Life Ministry
For the past 20 years, Cary Church of God has been feeding lunch and preaching the gospel to anyone who comes to Moore’s Square on Saturdays.
Eight other churches, including ours, have partnered with them in this work, so we now have a nine week rotation. On our Saturday, we meet at Cary Church of God at 8am. We cook and assemble hundreds of hot dogs, heat up chili, chop onions, mix lemonade, and spoon coleslaw into large pans. Once all of these are in the trailer, we drive downtown, where about 50-75 people have already lined up in anticipation.
While they receive their lunch, one of us walks through the crowd with a portable microphone and gives a short message. After that, we pray with whomever wants prayer and pick up whatever trash they leave. Many times, someone from the crowd will see us picking up trash and help. All told, this entire ministry takes 5 hours: from 8am-1pm, including clean-up, every nine weeks. It’s a simple way to serve the downtrodden. Meeting some of their temporal needs as we preach the gospel, if we do so empowered by the Holy Spirit, goes a long way to reaching their hearts.
See the Event Calendar for dates and times.
